With its crystal clear waters and sandy beaches, the origins of this idyllic paradise is surprising. It is the result of military trials of the Mexican government in the twentieth century. But which one would expect to find ruins and devastation, there is a sensational low deserted beach on the Marieta Islands, off Puerto Vallarta.
The Marieta Islands are an uninhabited island off the coast of Nayarit, Mexico. This former military became protected national park area is very popular especially for its "artificial" beach created by the explosion of a bomb as well as for its abundant marine wildlife tourism destination.
Training of long-term islands
The Marieta Islands were formed as a result of volcanic activity there are several thousands of years. These islands are about an hour by boat to the west-northwest coast of Puerto Vallarta and are visited daily by hundreds of tourists. The Mexican government has turned the uninhabited military zone during the 1900 islands. Many military and heavy bomb explosions tests took place creating caves and amazing rock formations. After a huge international outcry in the late 1960s, thanks to the intervention of some scientists like Jacques Cousteau, the Mexican government decided to end the trial and created a national park protected against any human activity, fishing, or hunting.

Affectionately nicknamed the "hidden beach" or "Beach Love" (Playa del Amor), the sandbar accessible only at low tide attracts tourists from around the world.

Through the clear tropical waters and coral reefs, one can observe sea turtles, manta rays, octopuses, dolphins, humpback whales and thousands of species of tropical fish. The islands are also home to a few thousand birds with species such as blue-footed booby.
